We are in a kind of Green mania right now, and not many people really understand how the Green program is supposed to work. I find that the Green agenda differs from group to group. The Green Energy people are concerned for the depletion of our natural resources. The Green Oceans people are concerned for the human impact on marine life. The Green Environmentalist is concerned about the compound affects of hydrocarbon emissions and the shrinking rain forest.
To the janitorial world, the Green impact is a little more pragmatic. They are now learning about new Green products, and they will also need to know how to follow Green Practices. In all honesty, the janitorial workforce are all hard-working people, but they are also the semi-forgotten workforce for nearly every building in our country. They work while others sleep, and leave before the regular crew arrives in the morning. We generally notice them when something was forgotten or the trash can overflows. They are, nonetheless, a critical part of the formula for every Green Office or Green Building in America.
To understand the paradox, ask yourself, "Exactly who is going to see that all the newly imposed standards and regulations are actually implemented." It won't be the president of the company, the secretarial staff, the office workers, or the sales force. When all these rules come down from above our heads, they will fall squarely at the feet of the janitorial, maintenance, and building contractors who do the job day after day and year after year.
Let me further say that it is unfair and foolish to think that the janitorial people are prepared for what is coming their way. It is also unfair and foolish to think that loading their carts with new and unfamiliar Green products will be the solution. Using Green products does not make for a Green cleaning crew. This upgrade in duty and performance must be accompanied by a minimal level of training that can be certified by a credible third party. Every janitorial worker should be Green Clean Certified, even if you do it over a period of a year. How else can any company claim to be Green Clean Certified?
Green Clean Institute offers the only credible training certification for Green Janitorial services. If you plan to hire, renew, or allow bids on your next job, add in a demand that the firm be Green Clean Institute certified and stay ahead of the regulations. Green Practices means your staff is Green Clean Certified, not just the products.
